Radio Rules
Radio Categories (Submit cassette tapes or CDs)
NOTE: The same program may not be entered in more than one category, EXCEPT a program may be entered in Public Service in addition to another category.
The entry form is available for download here. It should be filled out and attached to the entry.
1. Public Service
For a distinguished example of public service by a radio station. Entries must be accompanied by a 500-words-or-less summary. Commercial sponsors are not eligible. Each individual may submit one entry. Each radio station may submit two additional entries.
2. Documentary
For a distinguished example of a radio documentary that is not a news story. Entries must be accompanied by a 200-words-or-less written summary. Each individual may submit one entry. Each radio station may submit two additional entries.
3. Newscast
For distinguished example of a radio news broadcast. Each individual may submit one entry. Each radio station may submit two additional entries.
4. News Story
For a distinguished example of reporting a single scheduled or unscheduled news event, broadcast by a radio station. Entries must be accompanied by 200 words or less on how the story was covered. Each individual may submit one entry. Each radio station may submit two additional entries.
5. Opinion/Commentary/Review
Entries must be accompanied by a 200-words-or-less summary of the importance of the commentary. Each individual may submit one entry. Each radio station may submit two additional entries.
6. Election Coverage
For breaking coverage of an election, primary or general. Entries may be accompanied by a 200-words-or-less summary of the importance of the commentary. Each individual may submit one entry. Each radio station may submit two additional entries.
7. Feature
For a distinguished example of a feature story, either a single report or a series of stories on the same topic. (A series counts as one entry.) Entries must be accompanied by a 200-words-or-less written summary. Each individual may submit one entry. Each radio station may submit two additional entries.
8. Investigative Journalism
For a distinguished example of investigative journalism by a radio station. A written summary of 200 words or less must accompany the tape. A series of broadcast reports on a single topic can comprise an entry. Each individual may submit one entry. Each radio station may submit two additional entries.
9. Report on Health/Science
For distinguished health or science reporting. Entries must be accompanied by a 200-words-or-less summary. Limit of three entries to each station or news service.
10A. Talk Show – Interview
For a distinguished example of a 30-minute-or-longer radio talk show in which a host interviews guests. Entries must be accompanied by a 200-words-or-less written summary. Each individual may submit one entry. Each radio station may submit two additional entries.
10B. Talk Show – Call-In
For a distinguished example of a 30-minute-or-longer radio talk show in which a host takes calls from listeners. Entries must be accompanied by a 200-words-or-less written summary. Each individual may submit one entry. Each radio station may submit two additional entries.
11. Sports Reporting
For a distinguished example of best radio sports reporting (not a live play-by-play report of a game). Entries must be accompanied by a 200-words-or-less summary. Each individual may submit one entry. Each radio station may submit two additional entries.
12. Arts and Culture Reporting
For distinguished arts or cultural reporting. Entries must be accompanied by a 200-words-or-less summary. Each individual may submit one entry. Each radio station may submit two additional entries.
